Martin Sepúlveda, PhD, graduated in Spring 2024 from the Immunology program and received the Program Award for Outstanding Performance in the Field. His dissertation, Impact of the Microbiota and Derived Metabolites on Solid Organ Transplant Outcome, conducted under the mentorship of Dr. Maria-Luisa Alegre, explored how the gut microbiome and its metabolic byproducts influence immune responses and graft survival following organ transplantation. His work contributes to a growing body of research highlighting the microbiota’s role as a key regulator of transplant tolerance and rejection.
Today, Martin is helping shape the future of healthcare innovation through his role in venture finance at UChicago Medicine Ventures, a strategic investment platform that supports cutting-edge companies, ranging from Seed to Series D, hat aim to improve clinical care and healthcare delivery. His unique background at the intersection of science and business allows him to translate complex biomedical insights into meaningful impact for patients and providers.
