2022 Marian Elliott Koshland Memorial Lecture

Dr. Jason Cyster, Professor and Vice Chair, Department of Microbiology and Immunology, University of California, San Francisco and Investigator, Howard Hughes Medical Institute, delivered the annual Marian Elliott Koshland Memorial Lecture on October 3, 2022. His lecture was entitled, "Multiple Guidance Modes Underly Immune Surveillance."

The Koshland lecture is in honor of Marian Elliott Koshland, SM’43, PhD’49,  who was a brilliant scientist and distinguished alumna of the University of Chicago. A professor of molecular biology at University of California, Berkeley for 32 years, Dr. Koshland was an international leader in immunological research. Her discoveries led to groundbreaking progress in the understanding of how antibodies function.

The Marian Elliott Koshland Memorial Lecture was established by the Division of the Biological Sciences and her late husband Daniel E. Koshland, Jr., PhD’49. The Koshlands met at the University of Chicago, where they spent the early years of their marriage and careers. They shared a lifelong dedication to science, education, and to their five children. The lecture is presented annually to commemorate Dr. Koshland’s scientific leadership and to honor her association with the University.
